The NetComm NF18MESH is a WiFi router and modem with NBN (VDSL2) compatibility. Your NF18MESH should come fully configured with no need to take additional steps. If you purchased your device from a different retailer, or if the device has been reset to factory settings, you will need to follow these steps to get connected to your internet service.
Opening the settings for your NF18MESH
The following steps are for connecting your router’s cables and accessing the settings, which you’ll need to do before following the rest of this guide.
-
To get started, connect your router to power and turn it on. Ensure that the device is also connected to your NBN device or wall point.
-
If you’re on Fibre to the Node (FTTN), this should look like a cable that’s connected to the ‘DSL’ plug on the NF18MESH and leads to a point on the wall.
-
If you’re on Fibre to the Premises (FTTP), Fixed Wireless, Fibre to the Curb (FTTC), or Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC), this should look like a cable that’s connected to the ‘WAN’ plug on the NF18MESH and leads to the network plug on your NBN box. You can click one of the links above underlining your connection type to see a diagram of what this looks like.
-
-
On a computer, tablet, or mobile phone, find your WiFi network and connect to it. Typically, the WiFi name and password can be found on the back of your NF18MESH.
-
Once you’re hooked up to the WiFi network, open a web browser and go to http://cloudmesh.net to access the settings for your device. If the above address doesn’t work, try typing
192.168.20.1
in the address bar instead. -
You should now see a page that says “LOGIN TO YOUR DEVICE” that asks for a username and password. These details can be found on the back of your NF18MESH next to the WiFi password.
-
If these details don’t work, or if the device has been factory reset, the username and password is typically admin by default.
-
We recommend following the steps below under 'Connecting you NF18MESH using the Setup Wizard'. If this doesn't work, try the steps below for using 'Advanced Settings' .
Connecting your NF18MESH using the Setup Wizard
In most cases, the Setup Wizard is the fastest way to set up your NetComm device. The wizard will appear immediately after logging into your router if it is a new device or has been reset to factory settings. For each step, use the following choices:
-
INTERNET
-
INTERNET SERVICE: If you’re on Fibre to the Node, select VDSL . For all other connection types, select Ethernet WAN .
-
CONNECTION TYPE: Select Dynamic IP and leave everything else unchanged.
-
-
WIRELESS
-
WIRELESS 2.4GHz: Select On , and choose a name (SSID) and password for your WiFi network. We recommend using WPA2-PSK for optimal security.
-
WIRELESS 5GHz: This is optional. We recommend turning this on and using a slightly different name, by adding "5G" to the end, so you can tell them apart. You can use the same password chosen for the 2.4GHz network.
-
-
PHONE
-
If you have a home phone service, check out our separate guide for entering these settings . The details for setting up your phone can also be found in your service completion email.
-
If you don’t have a home phone, click Next to skip this step of the wizard.
-
-
GATEWAY SECURITY
-
New Login Username: This is for logging into the router again in the future. You can set this to whatever you like, or keep it as admin.
-
New Login Password: We strongly recommend choosing a secure password for this step for optimal security.
-
-
TIME ZONE
-
Select the time zone based on the area you live in.
-
-
SUMMARY
-
The last page will display a summary of the settings you’ve entered. Check that these are correct before finalizing.
-
Connecting your NF18MESH using Advanced Settings
After logging into the device settings page, click Advanced Settings from the menu on the left. If you are currently on the Setup Wizard page, click Skip to Main Menu.
On this page, if there are already any Current Connections in the list, delete all of them. Then, click Create New and fill in the fields below. Most of these options will be pre-filled, so any that aren’t specified here can be skipped.
